“IT IS OFFICALLY MARCH MADNESS “. This past Monday the season ended for sixty-four teams across the state. We saw some of our most consistent top 25 teams this season fall in the regional semifinals after having amazing seasons. This included Bethesda C.C., FSK, and Seneca Valley. Great Season Ladies, we look forward to seeing you all next year.
We are now down to “16” teams in each region. If you love Girls Basketball you cannot miss these Regional Finals games. Please go out and support our student athletes. It is “Win or Go Home Season”. Here are some of the most intriguing games to watch:
1A Region
Pikesville @ Loch Raven: 530pm- 1A South Region One- (2nd time these two teams will meet in the past 3weeks. Both teams hang their hats on defense. Pikesville is led by all World Freshman PG Mariah Jones Bey the Raiders of Loch Raven are led by Maya Gordon. This game will be won in the paint and may come down to which team can take care of the basketball.)
Edmondson @ Forest Park: 5pm- 1A North Region One – (Forest Park has been owning teams from Baltimore City. They have one of the best starting 5’s in the region. Edmondson will have to slow the game down.)
Boonsboro @ Catoctin: 6pm- 1A West Region Two- (The State Champ Runner up Lady Cougs of Catoctin are looking to back to the big game, this should be a solid game).
2A Region
Middletown @ Williamsport: 6pm- 2A West Region Two- (Williamsport has been my dark horse all year. One of my final four picks. They lost to Middletown a few weeks back. This will be a good game to see).
New Town @ Hereford: 5pm- 2A North Region One- (New Town is on a mission after making the Baltimore County Championship game. They are poised to unseed Hereford as the 2A North Region Champ).
McDonough @ Lackey: 6pm- 2A South Region Two (McDonough was my other final four team in this bracket, however this game could go either way. Lackey made it to the SMAC championship this year.)
Fallston @ Harford Tech: 2A East Region One (Senior Anyia Gibson is the real deal. After a tough 1pt win over Rising Sun my Favorite to make the championship game is still in it). Fallston are the current 2A State Champs. There is an old saying “To be the champs, you have to beat the champs”. )
3A Region
City @ Poly: 530pm- 3A North Region One (Poly is on a mission right now, The magnitude of this upset would be monumental. Poly has too much depth and experience though. Still a good game to check out).
Manchester Valley @ Howard: 6pm- 3A East Region One – (How many times have we seen this playoff matchup over the years. Howard has one of the best backcourts in the state. Can ManValley finally get the monkey off their back? It’s almost impossible to win at Howard, however this is why we play the game.)
Oakdale @ Linganore: 6pm- 3A West Region One – (Linganore coming off their CMC Championship last week are favorites to make the State Semi’s. This should be a good western MD showdown.)
4A Region
Wooton @ Churchill: 6pm- 4A West Region One – (Nothing like a good ole Mo. County Regional Final Game. Churchill won the County Championship, but Wooton has been tough all year.)
Urbana @ Clarksburg: 6pm- 4A West Region Two – (Urbana beat a talented team Monday. Next up Clarksburg the State Champion runner up last year. This should be an up-tempo game and fun to watch.)
Dulaney @ Western: 6pm- 4A North region One- (2 well coached teams. Western is our defending 4A champion who some wrote off when they graduated the best backcourt in the state. But their back and ready to defend their crown. Dulaney has played solidly all year. I’m predicting a very close game.)
Wise @ Flowers: 7pm- 4A South Region Two- (It’s a shame these 2 PG powerhouses must play so early. Both teams are defensively sound. First won to 50 should win. Wise is led by Jr Chrisdin Jones and Sr Emrie Aarons. Flowers have a multitude of seniors. This game is really the very reason why the MPSSA should look into doing away with the split regions and just seed 1-32 for each region. This is really a state semifinal or state final game.)
Old Mill @ Glen Burnie: 6pm- 4A East Region One (What better way to stop a losing streak to a rival, by beating them in the playoffs when it matters the most. This should be one for the books.)
South River @ Severna Park: 6pm- 4A East Region Two- (Severna Park made it to the AA County championship this year. South River could make a statement for their program with a win).
