Welcome to Week 7. A lot has happened over the past few weeks. One thing is evident; Western Maryland is the toughest region for Girl’s basketball this year in the State. Smithsburg, Frederick, Urbana, Linganore, Southern Garrett, Oakdale and Catoctin are all legit teams that can make their way to Xfinity center this year. With that level of competition, the CMC conference championship will be one of the most anticipated this year. South River, Whitman, Pikesville, Milford, Poly, Smithsburg, and Northpoint are all undefeated in conference play. In PG County it seems like Oxon Hill, Bowie, Flowers, and Wise are the top teams. Whitman is the favorite this year in MOCO after beating Clarksburg Last week, and Churchill and Walter Johnson already. Patterson Mill has a big rematch game this week vs Fallston. The Milford vs Pikesville matchup this week could decide the Baltimore County championship. Western and Poly have both defeated Forest Park this year. We are hoping the Poly vs Western rematch will happen this week, weather permitting. Oakland Mills and Howard seem like they are hitting their stride now. I am going to predict that Smithsburg will go undefeated in the regular season if Catoctin does not beat them this week. Annapolis and South River will have to play again this season as well to see who the top squad is in Anne Arundel County.
We have four newcomers to the State “Top 15” this week, South River, Catoctin, Howard, and Frederick. As always this could change. I will be covering the must-see games to watch every week and providing the weekly State “Top 15 Public School” rankings. Finally, for the game to grow we must attend games in person and support our student athletes. Cheers to Week 7.
