MD Public Girls Basketball "Week 11 " Top 15 Rankings, Key Games & Recap

Recap of last week’s MPSSA Girls Public High School Basketball.

Week 11 is upon us. For some teams it is the last week of the regular season. Let us recap last week. South River beat a good Broadneck team by 35, Pikesville beat New Town handily, Whitman beat Clarksburg, Oakland Mills beat 3 quality teams, Churchill beat Whitman, Walter Johnson beat Bethesda, Flowers beat Wise, North Point beat Huntington, and Poly lost an overtime game to McDonogh. This week is a huge week in Montgomery County as all the top teams are playing against one another, so we should have a clear idea of who will be matching up in the conference championship after this week. Frederick will play Oakdale, Western Plays Edmondson and Forest Park will travel to Dunbar. I took this weekend to check out the latest MPSSA Playoff standings, and I must say I feel extremely bad for the 4A teams in the state. The number of top teams that are in certain regions compared to other regions should really be looked at and hopefully changed. There is no way 8-10 top teams must battle it out just to win their respective region. We simply need a better format in which the top 8 teams in each region should get a #1 seed so we can truly get the top 8 teams after the regional games. Just my thoughts.
