Recap of last week’s MPSSA Girls Public High School Basketball.
This past week showed why we love girls’ basketball so much here in the State of Maryland. Many of our area teams competed in the “She Got Game” and the “Panther Classic” this past weekend. For our student athletes to get their due respect we must continue to support events that are held in our own backyards. Kudos to the private and public schools who competed. Scheduling tough games and putting your student athletes in those tournaments will only make them better. Last week we saw everything from Top 10 schools losing to both in conference rivals and out of state programs to buzzer beater shots. The week started off with Reservoir getting a big conference win against Howard. Only for Howard to bounce back to beat Atholton and New Town. Flowers beat wise by twenty-four, South River beat Broadneck by eighteen, then played a tough John Carroll team. Oakland Mills played a solid Rosedale Christian team. Pikesville displayed a defensive masterpiece against Roland Park Country. New Town is getting prepared by playing everyone. Poly played some great out of state teams at “She Got Game,” and North Point went undefeated at “She Got Game.” If you have a chance, please log onto NFHS and watch the Bethesda vs Seneca Game from last Friday, a great game instant classic. The buzzer beater shot was crazy. This week we welcome Oakdale to the top fifteen, and we have a new number one. This is one of the biggest weeks for Baltimore City Girls Basketball as Western and Forest Park both host Poly, the reigning 3A state champions. South River takes the Journey down to North Point as well. Unlike some other publications we try our best to see every team all throughout the state of Maryland. Our rankings are based on strength of schedule, quality wins, the eye test and overall record. You simply cannot play a easy schedule and expect to be in the top 15. The objective is to get the student athletes better over the season in preparation for the state tournament. We have several holiday tournaments coming up throughout the east coast, so I hope that your program is involved.
Here are the Top 15 rankings for Week 3 (Ending 12/21/24)
We try to be as accurate as possible, so we encourage teams to please submit your game scores to MaxPreps, scorebooklive.com, Twitter, Instagram, or your school’s athletic page. I will always post and repost scores on Instagram SamBuckMDPrepHoops.
