Recap of last week’s MPSSA Girls Public High School Basketball.

Last week was tough for the Top 15. A newcomer to the Top 15, Walter Johnson beat defending 4A champion Clarksburg. North Point beat South River earlier in the week. McDonogh and Notre Dame Prep beat North Point over the weekend. Poly dropped two games, to Western and Forest Park. St. Mary’s got past South River. This week we welcome Parkdale, Francis Scott Key, and Walter Johnson to the Top 15. I have had a chance to see nearly every team in live action this year. I do understand that some teams play soft schedules and others play in every tournament that is available and or schedule tough out of conference teams however you still must win at least one of those quality games. In terms of getting your team better for the state playoffs, playing a tough out of conference schedule will have your team playoff ready, because they have seen tough competition throughout the season. This week most teams in the State will be competing in the 695 Hoops “All about the Girls” Holiday tournament on 12/27 & 12/28. The tournament will be held at multiple locations. This game of basketball is a wonderful way for people from all walks of life, no matter their race, ethnicity, religion and or social economic status to bond, network, and create lifelong friendships. We have a ton of great matchups over the break, I look forward to seeing everyone out supporting our student athletes. Remember we can only grow the game if we continue to show up. Lastly, I want to wish everyone a relaxing Holiday break. Please take this time to appreciate what you have, rejuvenate, set new goals, and enjoy family and friends.

We try to be as accurate as possible, so we encourage teams to please submit your game scores to MaxPreps, scorebooklive.com, Twitter, Instagram, or your school’s athletic page. I will always post and repost scores on Instagram, and Twitter at SamBuckMDPrepHoops.
