MD Public Girls Basketball "Week 5" Top 15 Rankings, Key Games & Recap

Recap of last week’s MPSSA Girls Public High School Basketball.

Happy New Year. The Holiday Hoops season did not disappoint. The top four ranked teams from the previous week all lost in their respective local or out of state tourney. Bethesda has defeated two top “10” teams and is currently undefeated. Congrats to Poly, Seneca Valley, Churchill, Annapolis, Frederick, Walter Johnson, Old Mill, Edmondson, Long Reach, ManValley, Severna Park, Chesapeake, and Bethesda for winning their Holiday tourney. We all had a chance to watch a lot of basketball last week and what was evident was the parity that we clearly have in the state among public schools. Last week Oakdale had an impressive win vs River Hill, Poly defeated FSK, Annapolis beat Howard and Notre Dame Prep. Indian Creek and Frederick beat Forest Park. Pikesville lost at the Diamond Classic in Delaware to Caravel. Edgewood loss to Dulaney and St. Tim’s. Parkdale lost to two private schools. Western loss to Mt. Carmel. Mt. Zion got the win over Flowers. We have about thirty teams in the state that have a legitimate chance to make a final four run. The 4A region is loaded this year, I am hoping that the MPSSA can shakeup some regions soon, because some have 3-4 good teams, while others have maybe one. Big Shout out to everyone who made the “All about the Girls 695 Holiday Hoops tournament” a magnificent event. With multiple locations, it took a lot of coordination and support from the community to make things happen. The mission is to always to grow the game of girls’ basketball. We want to get our student athletes exposure so they can have opportunities to play at the next level.
