MD Public Girls Basketball "Week 8" Top 15 Rankings, Key Games & Recap

Recap of last week’s MPSSA Girls Public High School Basketball.

Welcome to week 8. This week I really had to peel back the layers. The win loss record is one thing. The win-loss record against other quality public schools and private schools is another thing. Some of our teams have 4 or more quality wins while others have 1 or less. We try to take into consideration the “Eye Test,” strength of schedule and of course wins and losses. For instance, South River and Poly have played the toughest schedule in the 3A vs really good private and public-school teams, though their records are 6-6. As everyone knows public school basketball has so much parity this year and week to week anyone can be beat. Last week Oakdale suffered its first loss of the season to Frederick. Churchill beat Walter Johnson; Bethesda continued its dominance in Montgomery County. River Hill had an impressive performance in their win against Howard. Forest Park all but clinched their spot in the City Championship with their win at Western. The atmosphere at that game was easily the best I’ve attended all year. Kudos to the traveling fan base of Western and the school community of Forest Park. North Point took care of business vs St. Charles, and Annapolis took care of Chesapeake AA and Severna Park.

This week we have some top 15 matchups during the week and “Public vs Private” (make up games) at Pallotti on Saturday.
